Drunk Drivers... and Rubberneckers!
Today's blog is about our life's experience from yesterday.
Drunk Drivers. Do they think they are infalable?
Kim and I were headed to my soccer game and as we were waiting at a red light, Kim looks at me and says oh my god mom and bang we got rear ended. After the initial blow, I look at Kim and she looks at me and I feel like a bad mom I don't remember if I asked her if she was ok. She looks at me and says with a grin on her face, we just got rear ended. I believe she was in shock...
We both sit in the car for a second or two, but seemed like an eternity. I instantly feel my neck muscles yelling at me but I need to take control of the situation. I get out of the car to see the damage. The car that hit us was an older model Ford Windstar and the guy that got out of it was cursing already. Hello.....!!! You hit us!!! He looks at Kim and says I don't see any damage, then he looks at me and starts yellling at me "oh look at you milking it already... ooo my back or my neck... get over it there's nothing wrong with you", and the abuse got stronger. He accused Kim of cutting him off and he tried to avoid the accident by jumping the median. (He wanted to jump the median alright, but only after he realized he forgot to use his breaks!) I told him I am going to phone the police because he was being very aggressive. He laughed at me and said go ahead. I called his bluff and phoned the police, and then he ran to his van. As I was talking to the dispatcher I look over at him because his behaviour was a little suspicious. He just put something in his mouth. Kim looks at me and says he smelled like alcohol. I mention to dispatch and within minutes a police cruiser and van are at our accident site. Mr. Mouthpiece has decided to stay away and suck a few cigarettes.
The officers get there but because he put a candy in his mouth and had a smoke or two the smell of booze wasn't as strong as it could have been. The damage to the car was so minor both Kim and I felt bad about bringing them out here. But perseverance pays off. The candy has worn off and bang they get a whiff of alcohol while they are talking to this guy. Few more minutes and he admits he's a recovering alcoholic. Now they say, you realize that now your story is getting less and less believable. Kim has to fill out a witness form now. As Kim is filling out her statement we suddenly hear a crunch. Someone was watching us and drove into the car in front of them stopped at the red light! ahahahah Calgary has the worst drivers in the world!!
Mr. Mouthpiece story isn't holding much value. The officers are doing a road test on him and five minutes later they arrest him for impaired.
I'm glad he got arrested. Even after Kim yelled at him "that's no way to talk to a woman", he continued his bad behaviour, and now he's behind bars.
I knew something was up with this guy, and I'm glad we did what we did. I'm a bit sore and Kim says she's a bit stiff, but we are alive and that's what matters.
Drinking and driving don't mix. I hope your stay in the drunk tank was a good one. Lesson learned? Probably not. But at least he won't have a license for a while.
PS: If you are going to strain your neck to watch an accident site, but sure you have no one infront of you!
Good night!!
