When It Rains, It Pours.......
Well, most of you know I gave my van and it's $430 a month payment back. The dealership refused to help me out, getting into a smaller vehicle, or giving me a buy out so I could sell it to a prospective buyer. So we have been without a car. We were borrowing a friend's jeep, and it too has broken down, so now we are severely without a modus of operationus.
This lack of fuel burning fun has left me a bit sour, grumpy and hungry... I am not sure just how to buy groceries without a car!??? I know it's a weird concept. I have gone Christmas shopping without one, and survived, but the food thing bugs me just a little bit. Memories of my childhood haunt me - my parents have never owned a car - when we went grocery shopping, it was the worst day in my life unless I could convince my mom to take a cab home. Here was the three of us, me mom and dad, with seemingly endless bags of groceries piling onto a packed bus. I felt the whole world was staring at us and laughing - look at them - they don't have a car, they have to take the bus to get groceries ... ahahahahah... (I'm sure this was not the case, but as an eight or nine year old thinks, it was the most embarrassing thing to do.
Now, some 25 years later, I am once again faced with having to shop without a car. Abdi, being the kind soul that he is, wants to help out. He wants to get himself a car, so he checks out kijiji. Finds a few cars around the $1000 mark. I'm really not sure where he's getting the money to purchase a car, but nevertheless, I play along with him and start browsing. He leaves... he's gone most of the day, calls me later in the evening and says the corolla is good. But it won't be ready for two weeks - but he leaves a deposit. I'm still not sure where this money came from... The next night he comes home really excited. The car he really wanted to buy is still there. He put more money down on this car! I'm in shock, he's tickled pink. We struggle at times for food and happiness, but all of a sudden he has money to buy two cars!!! I say "Abdi, where did you get this money from?" He looks at me and smiles like crazy and says "Baby, I'm a man! Don't ask me that!" then he laughs. I shake my head I know he would never do anything illegal. Abdi likes living here in Canada, so he won't do something dumb to mess it up. I think he has nice friends... where are my friends like that???
Two days later he tells me about a Honda for sale also. Good car... we could all have a car for Christmas!! Thank you Santa!
